Dashcam card reader UGREEN with Sandisk SD card 128 GB, formatted for Tesla Model S/3/X/Y dashcam from Autopilot AP 2.5

This card reader with SD card has been preformatted by us specifically for the Tesla Dashcam function. Simply insert the card reader with SD card into the USB port and you're ready to go. No further installation is required. After inserting the card reader, the dashcam symbol will automatically appear after a few seconds (see image gallery).

Thanks to its optimal width, the slim card reader offers enough space for use from the adjacent USB port.

This card reader features a USB Type-C port. This allows you to view the video footage recorded by the Tesla directly on a smartphone with a Type-C port (or with an adapter for Apple, not included). We recommend the "Cam Viewer" app for this purpose. (See image gallery)

Front camera
A new feature allows you to record and permanently save video clips from the front camera on a USB storage device.

Save:

Insert the pre-configured USB storage device into one of the front row USB ports.
After a few seconds, a red dot will appear in the dashboard camera icon in the status bar to indicate that the recording has been saved.
Please note that the USB stick must be inserted to save while driving.

Tap the icon to save a 10-minute video clip, or press and hold to pause recording. Recordings not downloaded from the camera within one hour will be lost. A video occupies approximately 30 MB per minute; the 1-hour recording loop requires approximately 1.8 GB of free space. The camera is available only for Model S, Model 3, and Model X manufactured after August 2017 with at least Autopilot AP 2.5.


Sentinel mode
The video recordings from Sentry Mode are saved on a USB stick, just like the Dashcam function. This USB stick must be connected to one of the two front USB ports. With Dashcam or Sentry Mode, the recordings from the front camera and the two side-facing rear-facing cameras are saved. One minute of image recording requires 30 MB of storage space per camera. Since the Dashcam only saves data for 60 minutes while driving and then overwrites the oldest data, the Dashcam function requires the following storage space on the USB stick:

60 minutes * 30 MB * 3 cameras = ~5400 MB (=5.4 GB) for one hour of continuous dashcam recording.

10 minutes * 30 MB * 3 cameras = ~900 MB (=0.9 GB) for a manual 10-minute recording by pressing the dashcam button.

Sentry Mode also saves 10 minutes of video footage from three cameras per detected threat. This translates to 900 MB per incident. A USB stick that's too small can fill up very quickly. Furthermore, the saved Sentry Mode videos cannot be deleted in the vehicle. Currently, this only works by plugging the stick into a PC and manually deleting the files.

To avoid having to constantly delete the videos, we recommend using the following USB stick size:


64 GB for dashcam and 1-2x per week guard mode use.
128 GB for dashcam and frequent guard mode use.
256 GB for dashcam and daily guard mode use.
